We are seeking an Environmental Specialist, who will develop and supervise programs and activities relating to aquatic ecology and
aquatic resource impacts associated with power production facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coordinate and implement fisheries and aquatic ecology assessments related to various projects and activities including
assessing projects for potential effects, prescribing avoidance and mitigation measures, developing environmental protection
plans, procuring relevant regulatory reviews/licences/approvals, developing monitoring plans, and completing site visits.
  • Provide ongoing support to generation operations related to protecting fish and fish habitat.
  • Represent the Corporation in regulatory approvals processes and community/public consultations.
  • Lead and provide support to various initiatives related to the management of risk for hydropower operations under
environmental legislation such as the Fisheries Act.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal work groups and external organizations including but not limited to provincial
and federal environmental agencies.
  • Effectively interact with internal and external parties at all levels.
  • Participate in internal and external multi-discipline project teams on various initiatives.
  • Prepare and present written and verbal reports regarding projects and activities to senior management, Federal and Provincial
regulatory authorities and affected/interested parties.
  • Represent the Corporation on external committees and working groups.
  • Procure and manage consulting services.

Qualifications:

  • A University Degree in Biological, Environmental Science or Resource Management or related fields from an institute of
recognized standing with five years of applied experience in the field of aquatic ecology/fish habitat science and management.
  • A Masters' degree in Environmental Science or Resource Management would be an asset.
  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing fisheries and aquatic ecosystem impact assessments and fish habitat
compensation/mitigation plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with project managers, regulators, Indigenous groups, consultants,
and various other internal and external customers.
  • Extensive experience with Federal/Provincial environmental licensing and approvals processes associated with hydroelectric
development and/or other large-scale projects.
  • Knowledge of the environmental impacts associated with hydroelectric developments.
  • Skills and ability to coordinate specialists in field investigations and technical report writing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Willingness to travel and work in a variety of environments, office, construction sites, and wilderness.

Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $43.40-$59.92 Hourly,
$83,164.38-$114,818.86 Annually.
