Hours of Work: 0-30 Hours per Week
With more than 1000 sworn and civilian members, the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) requires a Permanent Part-Time PC Support Technician. The WRPS delivers exceptional police services to more than 575,000 residents. As the PC Support Technician…
You Will:
Respond to user questions and resolve hardware/software problems;- Monitor master consoles, troubleshoot, and maintain computer systems and networks;
- Ensure all calls are resolved in the minimum amount of time;
- Test new equipment, install upgrades to software and hardware and creates, maintains and configures user databases and systems, if required;
- Delivers personal computers, sets up and instructs staff on operation; conducts preventative maintenance of personal computers;
- Supports and troubleshoots the IP camera hardware and software;
- Create, maintain and configure user databases and systems;
- Provide back-up support for Bell Communications System;
- Maintain various printers and conducts various setups;
- Load computer program software from networked and physical sources;
- Support the E-Disclosure process, including trouble shooting errors and assisting with video and document transfers;
- Access and maintain a variety of confidential information and files to respond to request for information; and
- Provide assistance and technical support to other members of the IT department.
You Have:
Knowledge of troubleshooting, diagnosing and repair of problems in computer equipment, software/hardware and operating systems and applications, plus network administration, normally acquired through the attainment of a certificate or diploma in computer science, or equivalent education from an accredited university or community college;- Two (2) years’ of related experience in information technology is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered; current A+ certification is required;
- Skills in the operation of a personal computer and basic knowledge of software programs, such as Microsoft Office with basic keyboarding skills;
- Working knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), including configuration, mapping, security and troubleshooting;
- Communication and customer service skills are required to provide suggestions and explore solutions to resolve end user computer related problems; to clearly and concisely provide explanations to assist end users with different levels of technical understanding; and
- A valid Class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s licence with no more than six (6) demerit points.
You Are:
Able to respond to help desk calls for assistance in a timely manner;- Able to travel to various locations within the Region and occasionally outside of the Region;
- Able to meet police security clearance requirements and to maintain confidentiality;
- Able to participate as an effective team member and to support and project values compatible with the organization;
- Able to write and update user manuals and technical reports and produce computer-generated reports as requested; and
- Able to read and comprehend technical journals, periodicals and catalogues to remain current in information technology.
