School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) is currently accepting applications for the position of Plumber.

This is a full-time permanent position. Following successful completion of the probationary period, the incumbent will be eligible for Extended Health and Dental Benefits, as well as Group Life and LTD Insurance. School District No. 73 belongs to the Municipal Pension Plan.

Under the limited supervision of the Manager of Facility Maintenance, the incumbent is required to perform a variety of skilled tasks at the Journeyman level related to the plumbing trade, in compliance with the BC Drinking Water Protection Act and BC Municipal Waste Water Regulations. Work is varied and requires independent judgement and initiative supplemented by technical expertise.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
Installs piping, fits tanks and valves in water systems in accordance with plumbing codes.

Maintains and repairs domestic, potable, sewer, storm water systems and other similar systems.

Tests and inspects backflow protection of all water systems including domestic, fire sprinklers, boiler feeds, and irrigation

Ensures work is compliant with monitoring authorities, including Interior Health and the Ministry of Environment.

On occasion, may assist the Irrigation Technician.

Travels to School District work sites as needed.

Troubleshoots and maintains plumbing according to codes.

Repairs leaks, reseats valves and clears blockages.

Performs any and all duties pertaining to trade as directed.

Other assigned job related duties.

ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, Principals and other employees of the Board and outside agencies/suppliers.

Ability to organize and prioritize workload with limited supervision.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools/equipment.

Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the plumbing trade.

Basic computer skills (email, work orders, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade 12 supplemented by full qualifications at the Journeyman level.

Gas ticket an asset

Backflow device testing qualification an asset

Completion and maintenance of the Environmental Operators Certification Programs (EOCP) in:

Small Waste Water

Small Water Systems

Well Water Maintenance

Backflow Testing

Experience with Fire Protection sprinkler systems would be an asset.

Must possess a valid Interprovincial Plumbers TQ certificate plus five years proven previous work experience in the plumbing field after designation.

Must be physically able to perform all duties of the position.

Valid B.C. Driver's License
