REPORTS TO: SXDL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

PURPOSE & SUMMARY

Semá:th Xo:tsa Developments Ltd. (SXDLP), the development branch of Sumas First Nation (SFN) is seeking an experienced and qualified individual to take on the role of Executive Director. SXDL is responsible for managing and developing economic projects and generating revenue streams to foster the economic and social betterment of SFN. The SXDL Executive Director is responsible for providing strong, effective management of SXDL development projects and services through strategic planning, strong leadership and effective management of personnel, sub contractors and project milestones. The successful candidate will possess extensive project management, construction management and development experience.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating construction and development projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget.
  • Preparing and submitting construction and developing project budget estimates.
  • Planning and preparing construction schedules and milestones, and monitoring progress against established schedules.
  • Preparing contracts and negotiating revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Developing and implementing quality control programs in accordance with BC construction code and SFN culture and tradition.
  • Representing SXDL on matters such as business services, conferences and contract negotiations.
  • Preparing progress reports and issuing progress schedules to SFN management and the SXDL Board of Directors.
  • Directing the purchase of building materials and land acquisitions.
  • Hiring, supervising and evaluating the activities of subcontractors and SXDL personnel
  • Maintaining high safety standards.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or designation with extensive experience in business, building studies, surveying, estimating, construction or civil engineering, or construction site management.
  • Extensive business management experience.
  • Extensive experience in working with First Nations communities and/or organizations.
  • Extensive project management experience.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of office procedures, records management, and document processing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers, managers, community members, contractors, field staff and suppliers.
  • Effective verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
  • First Nations heritage is considered an asset.
  • Appreciation of First Nations culture, traditions, procedures, and protocols.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $60,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
